SEGA Abandoning Mature Wii Gamers?

House of the Dead Overkill

SEGA's 2009 House of the Dead Overkill

Well you can’t say it’s for lack of trying. In a recent 1UP podcast, SEGA director Constantine Hantzopoulos answered the question as to whether they would continue to create mature titles for the Wii with the following: “…probably not. Look at Dead Space. We were stunned. That was my litmus test. Basically, it’s like, okay, you got EA, who can put all the marketing muscle behind this, an established franchise that scored quite well on 360 and PS3. They should be able to actually hit this out of the park, right? We get numbers, real numbers aside from NPD, and I’m like, ‘Woah’.”

She’s referring to the report that EA’s Wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction sold under 10,000 copies. For the record, I own SEGA’s MadWorld, Conduit, and House of the Dead Overkill, and even EA’s Dead Space Extraction. These are all Wii exclusives, and were a fine show of commitment to the mature Wii crowd.

MadWorld: 81 on Metacritic and as of this posting goes for $20 on Amazon.
The Conduit: 69 on Metacritic and as of this posting goes for $28 on Amazon.
House of the Dead Overkill: 78 on Metacritic and as of this posting goes for $20 on Amazon.
Dead Space Extraction: 82 on Metacritic and as of this posting goes for $47 on Amazon.
